Could Really Do With A Massage? 3 Reasons To Say YES!

So, you’re feeling that stress and tension or have a few aches and pains. Don’t tell me you’ve never said “ I could really do with a massage”

Well, what are you waiting for?

We need to learn to listen to our body more. There is a reason you’re suffering. I suffered for many years after my car accident with neck spasms and back pain and still do. Initially I ignored it until it became debilitating. I couldn’t move my neck at all and every twinge was agony.

Finally I caved in and had regular neck, back and shoulder massage and some Osteopathy sessions. Admittedly prior to this I pushed my health to the bottom of the list as finances were tight. New clothes, regular nights out and the car I had my eye on were slipping further down my list of priorities. My health began to soar after feeling the immense benefits and relief massage gave me. I took the therapists advice and maintained my treatments. For the next 2 years, I had no further issues with my neck.

I refer to our bodies like a car. If you don’t have a good service now and again, it’s inevitable you will break down, it’s just a matter of time.

Here are just a few of the many benefits of massage:

1. Boosts your circulation and immune system

Massage increases blood flow around the body which is extraordinarily beneficial for healing. It is especially so to those who may have a more stagnant lifestyle as a result of age or injury. It also helps to move waste products from the body by stimulating the lymphatic system which relies on movement to function as it doesn’t have an in built pump like the heart.

2. Reduces stress and tension

Studies have shown that massage increases levels of serotonin (happy hormone released in the brain) and dopamine (arousal and reward hormone released in the brain). Regular massage promotes deep relaxation, slowing heart rate and breathing, reducing blood pressure and the production of stress hormones. Massage also boosts energy and increases concentration leaving you feeling both relaxed and revitalised.

3. Improves flexibility and function

Massage can help to relax tight and painful muscle tension and loosen the joints, improving overall flexibility and function. It is especially beneficial for those who like to exercise as the massage helps to eliminate products that are formed in the body after exercising and also improves the muscle tone.

5 Benefits Of Reflexology

Reflexology has numerous health benefits, I just wanted to share a few of my favourites with you. So, here it goes:

1.Reduces stress and promotes relaxation

Reflexology is a fabulous non invasive and natural way to relax. Stimulation of specific reflex points on the soles of the feet are said to encourage the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good hormones which are widely known to relieve the effects of stress on the mind and body. This seems to be the most popular reason clients seek to have this therapy.

2.Improves blood circulation

Reflexology techniques can improve blood circulation both in the feet and also around the whole body. It increases the blood flow to the body’s vital organs. This is the reason you may experience a drop in temperature during a treatment. As blood carries oxygen and nutrients around the body, reflexology can promote healing if certain parts of the body are in need of repair through injury or post surgery for example.

3.Reduces pain

When Reflexology is carried out more endorphins are released which block pain signals to the brain. Endorphins are natural painkillers said to be even stronger than morphine. If people are experiencing pain, they may get significant relief with Reflexology. Scientific studies show that reflexology reduced pain by 40%

4.Boosts the immune system

The immune system protects the body by battling the bad bacteria. It is essential  that our immune system is strong and protected. We are often encouraged to take medications which treat the symptoms rather than the cause of illness. Reflexology strengthens the immune system by flushing out the toxins before they have a chance to take hold in the body.

5.Detoxifies the body

Reflexology has a detoxifying effect on the body. Disease can be harmful to the body and if it isn’t addressed it can manifest into more serious illness. Reflexology increases lymphatic movement and therefore speeds up the removal of unwanted toxins in the body. Drinking plenty of water is essential in this process which most reflexologists will encourage post treatment.

There is an increased knowledge in relation to the benefits of reflexology and the positive effects it has on health and well being. As a reflexologist myself it is lovely to see so many more people benefiting from this wonderful therapy.
